Bowhead REACH Adventure E-Bike

Dustin Berg was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and grew up enjoying the outdoors. He was skiing and fishing by the time he was four years old.

As he grew older, his dad and two older brothers introduced him to more exciting outdoor adventures, including remote wilderness backpacking, camping near the hot springs, bow hunting, rock climbing, snowboarding, fly fishing on everything from small streams to larger rivers, such as the San Juan. During his adventures into the backcountry, he'd learn about New Mexico wildlife while spontaneously encountering Native American ruins and some of the most beautiful country the world has to offer.

After graduating high school in 2002, Dustin attended the University of New Mexico (UNM), pursuing a degree in civil engineering. While taking classes at UNM, Dustin was in a catastrophic motorcycle accident that left him paralyzed from the waist down. It was a very sad and hard time for Dustin, but what hurt him the most were the faces of my family members, who desperately didn't want to believe he would never walk again. It was a difficult time.

Dustin decided that this would not be the end of his story. He was going to give it everything he had.

In 2005, Dustin started a nonprofit organization to help my fellow wheelchair users enjoy the great outdoors. Along with a team, he built a community of people supporting each other and making extraordinary things happen. They had fun, they helped people get back to work and school, and mostly build a family and friendships.

In 2007 his son was born, and he went back to college in 2013 and graduated with a degree in business and his is now married. Besides his family, Dustin is most proud of the impact he feels he is making in other people's lives. Dustin says, "That is the cool thing about life - you never know unless you give it your all! The adventure is great. Making positive strides in our society is of utmost importance."

American Mobility Project is proud to provide Dustin with a Bowhead REACH Adventure E-Bike. He  is using this all-terrain bike to help with his nonprofit work, attend soccer games, fly fishing, and hunting with his family. Congratulations, Dustin; thanks for sharing pictures of your great adventures and accomplishments.
