Keith

iBOT Personal Mobility Device

Keith Carney is a husband, son, and brother. He has worked for the transportation company, Averitt Express for 38 years. He enjoys his job, football, grilling out, and having friends over. Keith’s biggest heroes are his mom, dad, and wife, PJ. On the night of his accident, Keith heard the most assuring and comforting words ever spoken to him. His father looked at him and said “Son, don’t worry about anything. I will take care of you.” His mother and wife are angels in his book.  As his caregivers, they are the strongest people he knows.

Keith was raised in Ashland City, TN where he was named the Defensive End of the Year by TSSAA in the 83-84 season for Cheatham County High School. He grew up on a farm where he loved to hunt, fish, water-ski, and boat. When he was 21 years old, Keith’s life was drastically changed when he was in an automobile accident and sustained a spinal injury.

Keith is receiving an iBOT Personal Mobility Device from American Mobility Project. He is excited to gain more independence to be able to do more in the yard, including playing ball with his dogs. He is looking forward to easier vehicle transfers including being able to do them independently, as well as reaching the top shelf!  As Keith gets closer to retirement, he wants to mentor others who may be in similar situations to let them know life does not end if you are in a wheelchair. He wants to spread the message that life in a wheelchair can still be just as rich as life walking. His biggest dream is to do good to all mankind and help however he can.
